My Life in Sandwiches

I’ve been hosting an Easter Tea Party in some form or another since college; Martha published a story about tea sandwiches and I was hooked. Since then, I have been making Almond-Crusted Curry Chicken Salad, Bacon and Egg Salad with Chive ‘Crusts’, and Roast Beef with Caramelized Onions and Horseradish Cream Cheese sandwiches, etc. (see pic).

It seemed like no sandwich had less than three things I had to make even before I started building a sandwich, and I liked it that way – an all day cooking activity is my favorite! I dutifully assembled it all and made my guests bring their own tea pots, because at the time I didn’t own one (TBH, I don’t even like tea, ironically).

We would pretend we were fancy for an hour or two, then the prosecco would pop and things became less fancy, but I was in my 20s, so what?Of course now I spend almost every day making sandwiches at the cheese shop for those of you in the know – but it’s still odd to me that a day hardly goes by when someone turns toward our little restaurant and says something to the effect of “oh I didn’t know you had seating, what do you serve?” I guess we are a hidden gem?

Thing is, I don’t want to be hidden – I want to share this incredible food with the world!

So today, I am asking you for a favor: if you haven’t had the pleasure of allowing us to serve you sandwiches, salads, toasts, or a cheese and charcuterie board (that I’ve literally been developing most of my life in some way shape or form), then come try us out one day. And if you have, tell a friend or two what you thought.

Below is a pic of a sandwich I made yesterday – the Ciao Bella – even I couldn’t believe how stunning this was – thanks for the pic Chef Jason Ungar!

xoxo,
Scott
